Longtail Fishing Boat Phi Phi

Taking a ride on one a traditional longtail fishing boat can be a highlight of your holiday on Phuket. Of wooden construction with a large canoe style hull they are powered by a petrol or diesel engine mounted atop a very long driveshaft with a single propellor at the other end. Still used for fishing but more increasingly to ferry tourists to outlying islands, sometimes with a covered area, sometimes without. The beauty is you could be sitting within a porsche, a lamborghini but more likely a Toyota as these engines are stripped from any car that comes to hand, making them cheap, practical and easy to maintain. So if you are of a mechanical mind and the scenery is too much for you then you can try identify it and amaze your friends (or bore them to tears)!
